Multiple reports have emerged indicating that Sony will reveal its PS4 Neo console at a "technical showcase" in New York on September 7.

The much-discussed mid-generation upgrade was confirmed before E3, but Sony decided to hold off on an official unveiling.

Now, both Gameblog and Vice Gaming have reported that anonymous sources inform them that the showcase will act as an official reveal - although Vice explains that as recently as a few weeks ago, Sony was still deciding what exactly will be shown.

Vice also reports that final development kits for the upgraded console will be sent out around the time of the showcase.

Pre-E3, Sony Interactive Entertainment president Andrew House explained Neo's absence from that show by saying, “we want to ensure we have a full range of the best experiences on the new system that we can showcase in their entirety.”

Some had suggested that the PS4 Neo would be revealed at mid-September's Tokyo Game Show, although it now seems likely that this would instead be the first showing of the console to the general public.

Vice also reports that final development kits for the upgraded console will be sent out around the time of the showcase.

While not officially corroborated, previous reports suggest that the Neo will offer more processing power to developers, but that games will offer a "Neo Mode", ensuring all existing PS4s can still play all games released for the console.
